Out of town boats again dominated the North Island Championships held on Saturday & Sunday of the Easter weekend at Taupo. In conditions that included challenging 15 - 18 knot south westerlies on Saturday and a 5- 8 knot southerly on Sunday, Wellington and Auckland boats again proved too good for the small fleet of local competitors. The conditions on Saturday also produced a confused sea state with a short half metre chop, while Sunday was glass smooth at the scheduled start time, delaying the start for 11/2 hours. The weekend was thankfully free of major incidents with the most notable event being a major raft up in the A Division fleet at the top mark in the Sunday race.
Many thanks to Lake Taupo Yacht Club which, as usual, ran a good and fair regatta. With 6 races on the Saturday, all competitors slept well on Saturday night.
